My name is Tiffany Saathoff, and I serve as the former President and current trusteeof the Rocklin Unified School Board.
For years, I wanted nothing to do with politics. I worked at my local church and with a local nonprofit, and I was content living in my small bubble here in Rocklin. Life felt simple and focused.
Then 2020 hit.
Our schools were closed. Our churches were told they could not meet. As parents and community members, we were frustrated and confused. And I began to realize something I had never fully seen before. It was local government that was making the decisions that shaped our daily lives. Decisions about how we work, how we play, where we gather, and how our children are educated.
I had to ask myself a hard question. How could I expect someone else to fight for my children and my community if I was unwilling to step up myself?
I also learned very quickly that it is not considered wise political strategy to run against a twenty-nine-year incumbent in your very first election. That is where Tanner and The American Council came alongside me. They sat down with me and walked me through the entire process. They helped me understand mailers, how to build a website, and how to clearly communicate what God had put on my heart and the passion I had for our community in a way that would actually resonate with voters.
The American Council also provided significant financial support. And honestly, I do not know that I would be where I am today without that support. I truly could not have done this without them.
What The American Council helped us do on my campaign is exactly the model we need. Because of that single school board seat, we were not only able to influence decisions locally, but we have seen a ripple effect throughout our county and even statewide.
Today, I stand here as a mother. I stand for my three children, but also for yours. And this is not just about me. The American Council has come alongside candidate after candidate for years.
For a long time, political strategy focused almost entirely on national races. But the reality is that many of the decisions that affect our everyday lives are made by local elected officials. When you give to local candidates, your support goes further. Local campaigns cost less, and every dollar directly impacts decisions being made on your behalf, right where you live.
