Candidate Training Program

The American Council has launched a new Public Leadership Training program for candidates running for office. In a time when public trust is fragile and principled leadership is desperately needed, we believe it is not enough to complain about the state of our government. We must raise up better leaders.

This program is designed to equip current and future candidates with the practical tools, moral clarity, and leadership formation needed to run strong campaigns and serve faithfully in public office. From campaign fundamentals and public communication to worldview, ethics, and decision-making, this training is designed to prepare leaders for more than just winning an election. It is built to prepare them to govern well.

Candidate Training FAQs

Who is this training for?

This training is designed for people who are considering a run for local public office, or who have already decided to run and want a clearer, wiser path forward. It is especially helpful for candidates running for seats like city council, school board, and other community-level offices where trust, relationships, and credibility matter deeply.

What will I learn in this program?

You will learn how to discern whether you should run, build a filing-and-compliance timeline, fundraise with integrity, engage your community effectively, handle debates and difficult public moments, sharpen your messaging, and prepare to govern well if you win. The course is built to move from calling and clarity to execution and leadership.

Is this training only for Christians?

No. This program has a Christian foundation, but it is built to serve anyone who wants to lead with truth, respect, integrity, and a genuine commitment to the common good. You do not need to share the theological framework to benefit from the practical training.

What makes this training different from other campaign resources?

Most campaign training focuses only on tactics. This training goes deeper. It helps candidates think seriously about motive, integrity, stewardship, public trust, and what it means to serve rather than simply win. It is deeply practical, but it is also grounded in character and long-term leadership.

Does this program give legal advice?

No. This training is educational, not legal advice. Filing rules, deadlines, and campaign finance requirements vary by jurisdiction and can change. Candidates should always verify official requirements through their city clerk, county elections office, and relevant campaign finance authorities.

Will this help me with filing and campaign compliance?

Yes. The program walks through the filing process at a practical level and helps candidates understand the importance of official election calendars, nomination paperwork, reporting deadlines, and core campaign finance forms. It is designed to help you move from confusion to confidence.

What level of office is this best suited for?

This program is especially suited for local races, where candidates need to understand both public service and practical campaign execution. It is built with community level leadership in mind, especially roles where relationships, presence, and trust shape the outcome.
